What coolant type would you recommend for a 1973 TR6. If you do not mind please specify the exact brand. We are new to enjoying our TR6 and want to make sure that we don’t mess things up! Thank you in advance!!

Hi Marty - assuming yours is a stock '73, and not knowing where you live, I'd say

Any commercial OAT or ethylene glycol antifreeze, diluted according to your climate zone, should be fine. Prestone, etc.

Add coolant directly into radiator (fill to seat of neck). Then drive check again, and when cool top it off if needed. I'm pretty sure that your year car should have a 13 psi cap; if it’s old you might want to replace it.

Prestone, but that's just a brand preference, just like Kendall is my current motor oil preference and Chevron or Shell for gasoline

I live in Reno Nevada cold winter warm summers a 50/50 mix works well here. Some also add water pump lube and or Wetter Water in hot areas. As for the cap could be very important and add a new thermostat some say 165 deg. I use 185 deg for better heat in winter. Some will say a 185 deg is to high the point is to keep the water in the radiator longer. The best way to tell is start with a cold motor and start with cap off you should see NO water movement until steam comes out. You will need to top of after a mile or two. and have a recovery bottle from cap to bottle with bottle 1/2 full.
Think of it this way; if you water is say 165deg your block is much hotter than 165, and that is at the front of the block where as the back can be even hotter. your block and motor oil could be as high as 300 deg. And last what ever your temp. gauge reads check with an outside reading say a meat thermometer in the water or hand held temp reading tool.
I also have a 1973 TR6
