1972 MG Midget Mk III Project Car for sale

1972 Midget restoration was planned for my retirement but I've run out of ambition, it has been sitting in storage since 1985 and it's time to find it a home where it might see the light of day again. It was parked because it had the typical transmission failure (twice) so there are 2 rebuildable gearboxes. It has the typical 'A' pillar and rocker panel rust / rot. The engine was running up until it was parked so it would probably just need to be inspected, fresh gaskets and maybe a little freshening. I am asking $1500 but that's negotiable.

As they say in the TV commercials, "But wait, there's more!" I also have THE Datsun 5 speed for sale that everyone looks for including shifter, trans yoke & slave cylinder. I paid $1000 and that's all I'm asking for it. I will sell them separately but the 5 speed will not be sold until after the car is gone (if I'm stuck with the car I'll definitely want the 5 speed).

The top and windshield are currently off the car and of course the engine and transmissions are out.

It is located near State College, Pennsylvania and pickup and transportation (together or separately) are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Hi JPS, it looks like no one is interested in taking this project off my hands so I guess I'll end up doing it. My granddaughter thinks I should since it's been a dream of mine for >35 years and she has volunteered to help (boy is she about to get an education!!!). My nephew who is a dealership auto body quality control person said he'll do all the sheet metal work for the cost of materials so I'll just be handling the mechanicals (oh joy!). I guess it's time to get it stripped down and shipped to his shop. Maybe he'll have it done before the December winds begin to blow. I know how I'll be spending next winter's long, cold days but at least my garage is heated! Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!

Stan, it makes me happy that you have decided to "carry on", especially with your granddaughter's help. It looks like you do have a pretty solid base to start with there too. Oh, and good luck, just in case you need it.

UPDATE: I didn't read far enough before my initial response (since deleted)...I see you are going to continue with the project with your granddaughter's help. How cool is that? You are in the right place to get all the help and advice you can stand! Good luck!

sounds great! and a great experience for your grand daughter - and if she needs to continue to learn I am sure I can provide the next car

Seriously, I was watching a TV show the other night and one of the characters was talking about time with his grandfather - he said 'I wish I could back - not to change anything just to savour it more.' savour it!
