1971 Series I XJ6 parked for 12 years - fuel pump problem

Helping a friend with the above. it was driven into the garage 12 years ago, fuel stabilizer added, and parked. We've drained passenger side fuel tank and there's 12 volts to the pump but no pumping. I can blow through the fuel inlet hose to the outlet. When voltage is applied, there is a 'gulp' type sound and when the voltage is disconnected, a small quantity of gasoline comes out the outlet - as if the diaphragm sucked in when power applied and pushed out when it was switched off. Driver's side pump also is not pumping and also has voltage but we haven't done any disassembly. Searching 'fuel pump' on the Forum was interesting but no luck. Thanks.
 
we're thinking it's an issue with the electrical points at the top of the pump. Will investigate tomorrow and advise.
 
Tried tapping (gently) to free up the ignition components and pump works.
 
One other thing to keep in mind if the plan is to start driving it, the gaskets and seals in the engine and drive train may start to leak after a bit. when they don't get regular lubrication and have a chance to dry out in many cases they don't really handle rewetting well. And brakes can start to leak, particularly if they have gone dry.
