I was curious, how would you set up a SN 5227/12 speedometer for OD?

The easiest way to correct any speedometer is with a gear reduction (or increase) gearbox similar to what the Bugeyes have off of the generator to drive the tach. Speedometer shops can get them and if yor are putting in a Datsun trans (or many other applications) then you can get them to go 90 degrees and this simplifies installation.

I ask because there was a Speedo that just sold on eBay that was set up for OD and it was big bucks. I've gota have 4 of these. Was it just a farce or is there such a thing? Do I need to modify mine in order for them to be OD?

Spridgets don't have overdrive, so whatever the speedo is on eBay, it's not Spridget.

Other than having a Hone overdrive or a two speed rear axel, the speed hookups I have seen read the output of the transmission. I wouldnt expect that to change except for a tire change or a rear gear change then its like Billm said.

My GT6 came to me with a different rear-end than stock and required one of these ratio-conversion-boxes to match the speedometer to the final drive. At the time, 15 years ago, it cost me about $80 and I had to provide the speedometer shop two (2) new speedo cables and a marked up drawing showing where (inline) I wanted the ratio box to be mounted. It worked fine and would still be in service today but I eventually put a standard rear end back in the car which allowed me to remove the ratio-box and put in a standard speedometer cable.

So the eBay speedo may have been full a baloney? Of course I cannot find it in completed now.

"I've gota have 4 of these."
