I hope I'm not breaking any rules here but I think I am allowed to post this as I have no financial interest. I went to look at this 66 Spitfire today as a possible restoration candidate and my verdict is no, so I called the guy and thanked him for letting me look at it and offered to post it here. He said sure, he just wants it gone. I confirmed the $100 price with him twice. I don't check BCF very often but I have made myself a post it note to check my private messages for the next 7 evenings. I will send contact info in the order of responses. so, PM me if interested.
The car - it appears complete. The story is some father & son were going to fix it up and took off some trim and took out the seats, etc, all of which is still stuffed into the car and in the trunk. That's as far as it got. The current owner has a repair garage and he kept it inside several years but now it has been outside the garage 3-4 years with a tarp over it.
Someone had sent me these pictures of the car with grass growing up around it, and unfortunately you can't see the bottom of the car where it's bad. I saw holes in behind & in front of both rear wheels, and around the bottom front edge of the front bonnet there were also rust holes through. I opened the trunk and there are holes from the trunk through to the wheels, and yes there are parts in the trunk. I looked inside and noted the transmission tunnel is not in place, I could see the transmission. I forgot to take a note if it is overdrive or not, assume it is not. All the instruments & dash were in place & the seats were thrown in there. All the glass looks OK except the windshield gasket is crumbling. I did not open the bonnet, I believe the engine is in there but I didn't look. After seeing the extent of the rust I called it quits.
It has got to be a great deal for a Spitfire restorer in need of parts - you get 1 of everything! I hope it helps somebody's project along. I keep telling people I've paid more for a water pump. PM me if interested.
Andy
