1964 BJ8 3000 Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge does not register. I realize it could be the sending unit. I noticed the gauge fogs up when the car is running. I took the gauge out and have a couple of questions. Is the metal piece that that holds the electrical connections supposed to be one piece? Looks like it’s broken in the middle. Second question, is the gasket in the chrome bezel replaceable? Mine is dried out and crumbled into small pieces.is it worth it to try and rebuild?

I have read that the BJ8 fuel gauges are notorious for fogging (not a problem with the earlier cars)

That broken piece is not metal, it's an insulator insulating the riveted contact spades from the case of the gauge.

Yes, the gaskets are replaceable, one source is - > INSTRUMENTS <

I suggest you send the gauge to these folks for rebuilding - they do beautiful work and warrant all their rebuilds for 1 year.
West Valley Instrument Specialists They should be able to explain the fogging issue with the BJ8 fuel gauge.
