1963 Triumph Hearld Restoration Car - $1000 Boston

Re: 1963 Triumph Hearld Restoration Car - $1000 Bo

Well I am near Boston, and the Herald has a special spot in my heart (my first car was a 948cc Herald), and it is the Holiday season - so there was a moment there when....

But I'm over it now. Leaving it to someone much braver than I.

Rob.

Wouldn't mind picking it up as a hobby, but the wife would shoot me. Hope someone else who loves Triumphs gets it and not some kid that will run it into the ground.

[/ QUOTE ]Fortunately, most kids simply wouldn't be happy with a 40-50hp convertible with barely enough room (or power) for a big old sound system and amp with 12+ speakers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Perhaps more fortunately (for me), both my kids seem to be quite enchanted with Heralds, although at minimum, an AM/FM radio would be a must...at least something good enough to run the iPod through! (My 15-year-old son in particular is mildly annoyed by the late 1960s dealer accessory Bendix AM/FM radio in my '62 Herald, since it has ONLY 2 FM preset buttons and 3 AM preset buttons. He's much happier with a modern car stereo with at least 12 FM presets.) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Nothing against these cute little Herald's, but if I have to go to divorce court, it will be over a TR3 or TR4A.

Andrew:

Being the local Herald expert, what would a decent little convertible, good runner for my wife's 10 mile ride to work during the summer run?
Please, no project cars, my 250 is enough for me.

p.s. are most parts Spitfire interchangeable?

Re: 1963 Triumph Hearld Restoration Car - $1000 Bo

Nowadays, I expect a "turnkey" Herald convertible -- one that is in excellent running condition and very presentable -- to be in the $3000+ range. And yes, most key mechanical, electrical and hydraulic bits are the same as or "swappable for" Spitfire pieces. One of the joys of a Herald is that it can be very nearly a four-passenger Spitfire!

I am going to be in Gloucester MA later today and again tomorrow. If anyone is really intrested - drop me a line and I'd be happy to take a look at the Herald for you. Would be a bit of a trip down memory lane for me.

If you could get at least some sense of the overall condition, especially concerning rust (or hopeful lack of same), and completeness, that would be great. I can't go for it myself, but since I passed the word on to some other folks, I've had a couple questions about it.

Thanks in advance!
