TR4/4A 1963 TR4 project Possum Bottom

Picked up a cheap TR4 back in December - solid axle 1963. The goal is a budget "driver" rehab with an eye toward future vintage racing (not sure the term budget and racing go together though). So far most of the paint is gone. Took on some undercoating today. Compared a few techniques - kerosene, WD40 and heat. WD40 worked better than kerosene, heat worked much better than either solvent. A torch worked better than a heat gun - a wood scraper was easier on the underlying paint than a metal scraper - but your mileage may vary. It needs sills, some lower fender repair (a new right rear fender), a back of a door post and a bunch of time... It's project Possum Bottom because of its former inhabitants.

Is it the tar type undercoat? I found heating the metal (best if you can get to the other side) would melt the bond and let you scrape if off in nice big chunks.

A little more progress. Looking forward to fixing instead of stripping... Looks like sills, a few floor patches and a couple of fenders need a little help.
