1963 Midget Body Update

So, all the suspension, steering & brakes are ready to go back under it when it gets home; the transmission is rebuilt, the radiator, heater core, & gas tank are all renewed...just waiting for the engine to get out of the machine shop

... the body is almost ready for its epoxy primer! Turns out the car has only been repainted once so what we're doing is stripping everything except the factory paint....here's a few photos as they complete sanding all that aftermarket paint and primer off.....next is white epoxy primer then bodywork!

Somewhere in its history, the little car's been in an accident that affected the driver front fender & a place on the butt - they'll smooth the body without adding bondo (they've got all the old bondo off already).

& somewhere in its history a PO painted the trunk black - that comes off tomorrow when they start sanding the interior & engine compartment.

We're gonna do the underside with bedliner that's tinted the correct red; wheelwells will get a smooth, high gloss red just like the body but everything else underneath will get the bedliner:

Re: 1963 Midget Body Update

Looking better all the time. I just love seeing one improve at the body shop. Just wait till it gets some primer, what a difference that will make.

Have them fit the new door before they prime, check it opening and clearing the A post.

Fitting new door tomorrow then removing both doors...they've got the new door in the blast booth taking it down to bare metal since we don't know its history.

Nice clutch rebuild there, Tony.

Looking really good. That's going to be a lot of fun once you're done.

Tony, You'll love the bedliner. Good stuff! It will also help with the noise and heat. Which brand are you using?

Also make sure you tape off any threaded studs.

Don't know, John - whatever brand my body man normally uses....I know he's tinting it with the same color as the body...we were going to paint the undersides & he used the same reasons to convince me to use it. Oh, thanks for the tip on covering threads...I'll mention it to him when I go over today.

Is this the one you're taking to the Ozarks Tony?
You're making some awesome progress!
