In fiddling under the hood of ncbugeye to make the switch to negative earth, I removed the heater fan unit to check it out and clean it and underneath it, two bolts in front, one at the bottom of the support foot at the back. As I pulled it out, the place where the rear support foot attaches simply crumbled out of the case, leaving a large hole, and some of the plastic still attached to the foot. The ancient plastic has simply rotted away, it has the consistency of Parmesan cheese. Plastics from those days nearly 50 years ago were a little primitive by today's standards - today it would be made of ABS and last 300 years.
So now I need either a fan unit p/n 13H51 or the casing for the fan unit p/n 17H1819 according to the Bugeye Service Parts manual. The factory apparently kept using the same assembly all through 1967 according to the Moss catalog, and then until 1970 it was something very similar.
Moss wants $249.95 for this unit, (owwcchh!!!!). At that price I will do without. Some UK places offer the complete unit for ÂŁ128 and just casing for about ÂŁ53.
Does anyone have one of these available from a parts car, or any heater/fan unit from a later model that would probably fit? Will pay reasonable $$$.
{{Metadiscussion alert: By the way if you want to type the UK pound sign on a US keyboard that does not have the key, simply press and hold the Alt key and then ON THE NUMERIC KEYPAD type 156, then release the Alt key.}}
