Restoring my MGA's complete brake system.....got to the rear cylinders (drum Brakes).....any ideas on disassembling frozen
rear brake cylinders...without destruction?
 
Soak them with a good penetrating fluid, then apply air at the bleeder hole. Be careful as when it lets loose it will fly hard and far. Rags are best bet to surround it as you apply air. Might take a while to soak it free.
 
you will need to get the tin metal cap(attached to upper piston) off the cylinder to remove the pin that holds the e brake lever in before it will come apart. If it does not come apart reasonably easy then replacce the cylinder. Brakes are way too important to take any chances with. That tin cap will break off the upper piston pretty easy. Soak and you may get lucky. Bob
