I just ran across a 1960 Jag Mark IX in very good condition. Runs good, body is straight and interior is not worn. It does have cloth seats which I have never seen, I've only seen leather. Did they make stock cloth interior that year? Also, considering buying it, is it worth $8500?

Hi Steve, and welcome to the forum. As for the value of the Jag, that's hard to say. The fact that it has cloth seats tells me that someone has done an amaturish restoration on the car, so for that reason alone I'd be skeptical a bit. (No, they did NOT come with cloth interiors, only connolly leather hides) I would be wondering what else it not original. As soon as you start doing things like that (or putting non-original drive trains in) the value of those cars starts to decrease rapidly in my opinion. To make it right would cost several thousand $$$ and thats if the interior is the only thing wrong. I'd have it looked at locally by someone who knows Jags ta make sure the rest of the car is sound and complete.

As a kid in 1965, we had a '60 Mark IX. I believe that my dad paid about $2800 for it used. It was in excellent shape both in and out. The leather interior was like no other car of its time. The beautiful burled wood, the center bar between the picnic tables, and the extra plush wool carpets were tremendous. We had the car until 1970. The shipping to and from Hawaii took a toll on the car and it never quite ran right after the return trip from Hawaii. The SU carbs were a nightmare but the car roared like a race car. The most destinctive auto in Hawaii and in Califronia at the time and we thought we were royalty.
 
Thanks for all the info. The wood is in good shape, some worn spots on the drivers window edge, from resting the arms as they cruised I'd assume. It is the same red interior as the pics from the link above BUT cloth. Haven't asked why but I will see if the owner knows when I talk to him this weekend. I just fell in love with the style, reminds me of the old "gangster" cars I loved as a kid. I guess if I get it my biggest problem will be I am out of garage space!! My wife an I part outside because of the XKE and Silver Cloud. Guess I could try to talk her into adding on to the garage!! Yah right, never happen.
I will keep you posted and post a few pics after I get them this weekend.
