TR2/3/3A 1956 TR3 ocasional seat

Anybody have any pictures of the 2 piece occasional seat in place for a 56 TR3? I have all the dimensions of the backer boards. Also I have the S brackets that hold it together and mount to the body. My real question is how is the rear bulkhead mounted with the seat in place? The back of the seat mounts to the top of the gas tank with 2 L shaped brackets. How would you secure the bottom of the bulkhead with the seat in place. The top slides into 5 brackets under the rear capping of the car.

Keith, there are some pictures of how I did mine on the TR3 link below (interior and doors section).

I installed the brackets, then the back, and then the seat bottom. No idea if this is how it is all supposed to go together, but that was the only way I could figure it out. Let me know if you need more pics and I can search for some additional details.

Machined from an engineering polymer that we call Acetal. Nice finish and turns quick. You can take a 50 thou cut.

Maybe I'll make a dozen. You can still put a socket on if the bolt gets stuck.

Thanks for the link Tom, it has a lot of good information on it. I've never seen it before. I still does not answer my question though. If you look at page 5 it shows the top bracket. That bracket mounts to the back of the seat and then to the top of the fuel tank mounting strap. The only way to do that would be to punch 2 holes in the top of the front fuel tank cover, and then the bracket would show. I don't want to punch the holes until I know this is correct, but I see no other way. Mike the back of your seat is not the same as mine. It looks like you have the later style that has the top on it that tucks under the body at the back. Your pictures are also very helpful.

Keith - Mine had a much simpler set up and I have no reason to believe it was not original - the brackets needed no modification and the holes were all there in the tub, albeit I had to fix one captive nut. The upside down U shaped seat bracket is bolted down onto the floor, as well as to the back to the vertical riser section. The "top" of the U has 2 holes that bolt through the plywood into inserts. Not the best pic, but you can see the brackets below. Hope this helps,

Bruce all the parts on your car are correct, and a much simpler design. The late TR2 , and early TR3 had a 3 piece set-up. The bottom seat cushion, back cushion, and the tank cover. It must have been a short run for this style seat. It sure is hard to get information on it.

Keith, I believe you are correct. The interior kit that came with my car is definitely for a newer car. The occasional seat bottom was original and had that duplicated. I will be most interested in what you find out as eventually I might like to install a more proper interior kit in my car. For now though, would just like to get it on the road! Cheers, Mike

This is exactly what came with my dad's car, you can see in the picture of my dad driving with all of us kids sitting on that very same seat!. I am sad that somehow (brain disabled during adolescence) the seat was lost, I left it in the storage shed of a house I rented back in college, but very happy to have these pictures so I can rebuild one for my dad's car. Alas, I have other work to do right now to get the car in running order, never been closer! If it is at all possible I'd be interested in the dimensions of the brackets. Thanks!
