Nice 100M but a $145,000 "buy it now" price ? Hope he gets it as sure does make any other 100M more valuable but be extremely surprized if it sells close to that figure. But, nothing ever shocks me any more when it comes to Healeys that sell on ebay. You see one that figure will not sell for much and ends up with 40 bids and a nice one that should sell gets none ! Be interesting to watch this auction !!!!

I must say I think this price is in line with the market. I watched Phil Coomb's (ex-Wild West big Healey racer) sell a '56 100-4 with a dealer added LeMans kit on the Discovery Channel's "What's My Car Worth" for 100K. His car was nice OEW with original (patina) red leather interior and fresh paint. Host and (Portland, OR native) Keith Martin drove the car and really enjoyed it. Keith's owned a few big Healey's throughout the years and even caravanned with the AHCO for the Rendezvous in 2002 at Lake Tahoe. He thought the car would bring 75-80K, PHil thought 90K. An otherwise nice car with one glaring flaw: note the obviously repaired left rear wing in front of the wheel in the first photo. The bottom of the 'dogleg' should have a very slight curve up and in--the whole bottom edge of the body should be a graceful curve--on this car the panel sticks out in a 'spur' (no comparable photos for the right side, but from what I can see it looks better). This is a common oversight/mistake that was pointed out to me before I made the same repairs to my BJ8. This is a difficult repair to get right; it's hard to get both the near-round curve of the wheel opening and the gentle curve of the bottom body line perfect.

Also, I can't tell how the carburettor air duct is connected to the cold air box (or if it's connected at all). The left upper radiator bracket is not original--there's been some modding done to accommodate the air duct. We had to remove (unbolt) a portion of the bracket on our M to make room for the rigid, 4" dia. duct.
 
Very nice but as noted by Bob S, some panel fits are not spot on...for $145 large I'd expect perfection...
 
Then there's the completely wrong colour interior. This car was built about mid February '56 and by then the Healey Blue cars had teal blue leather and vinyl interiors, (still with dark blue carpets and weather equipment)with no contrasting piping. Lots of folks we could name know teal should be there, but opt to go with dark blue. Also earlier Hundreds with dark blue trim did NOT have white piping, rather it was a soft grey contrasting piping, including on the arm rest. Also the non adjustable steering wheel in this car has the repro eror of having wider spaced spokes as per adjustable wheels. This non adjust wheel should have the narrow,, closely grouped spokes.

I could list LOTS more but I'll stop now.
 
Like I said, if it measures up......and it looks like it doesn't.
 
I always find it interesting on ebay, that while your trying to sell your car, you don't include either enough pictures or GOOD pictures. In this case where are the pictures of the frame and underbody?

I just sold my 70 E-type last week in two days . Had the maximum number of shots and multiple underbody views available.

The car went to Maine to a very happy new owner.

Sadly, recent sales results show that correct details are not that important to final price. At least not at the moment. Many of the cars I have tracked at auction have a long list of minor and major departures from original and still bring top dollar. I know there will always be a segment of the buying public that keys in on original details, but most buyers just want to know that the car was originally a factory specific model and then just look at the quality of the work they see without asking if the materials are correct for the car or even the year. This may change in the future, or it may get worse. There is no way to tell.

The bottom line is, if original details are important to you, spend a lot of time, do a lot of home work and ask a lot of questions before you buy. Otherwise, you will feel pretty bad when you bring your new aquisition to a meet, only to hear form the experts why it is not correct.

If those details are not important to you, you should still make sure the car you are buying is actually the model being represented and that the work that looks so good today will hold up over time. Otherwise you stand to lose a lot of money.
 
I'm curious to see what it sells for and would wonder what the minimum bid is set at. My feelings are that I hope someone who will be driving it buys it. I am sure you all know that I am about driving and not showing. Fortunately Agatha agrees with me.
 
I went back and looked at this ad far more closely than yesterday when I first posted on here. We have some folks with good eyes and I sure did not notice some of the obvious faults like some of y'all. Know the radius line on the swage lines is incorrect but sure missed that the cold air box appears to have no cold air trunking attached !!! Looks like the fit on the doors is not where I would expect them to be on a $145,000 100M. I sure would have put a lot more detail in the ad, many more pictures even if you link to a shutterfly type site, etc. Wonder if this ad was put out there to simply see what it might bring and then negotiate with that bidder after the fact or simply trolling for someone with $145,000 burning a hole in his pocket ? Also...

Wrong (chrome, looks like) wheels, missing boot Armacord, wrong coil, spark plug boots, distributor wire boots, coolant hose clamps, air ducting clamps, body no. plate on firewall should be painted, etc. etc. Maybe a good driver but not restored to concours standard.
 
And a rubber hammer for the knock-off's!
 
Well, despite some of the things we all chimed in about this 100M, just hit its reserve at $125,000 with about 5 hours left in the auction. Was stuck at $70K plus for the longest time and then went up to $88K when I checked this morning and at 4:30 now at $125,000. Somebody likes it a lot ! Be interesting to see if it goes any higher and if it might be an off shore buyer. Might make me rethink keeping my red over black factory 100M for that kind of money - but not if I can manage to hold onto it until I can no longer drive it !

I think that's a lot of money for an M that isn't even painted to its original scheme and I'm not sure what is wrong with the coldbox but it looks strange to me.

Having said that I am keeping Agatha until I can't drive her any longer and then not sure what I'll do with her. I think she'll go to my daughter. There isn't enough money for me to give her up - it's just too darn much fun driving her.
