Just got a copy of the weekly lesson outline from Will's school (he's enrolled in the University of Alabama in Birmingham toddler/preschool program)...focus is "Fall":

TUES: Topic is pumpkins; book to be read to children is "Its Pumpkin Time"; math is match the jack-o-lantern faces; science is to play with a real pumpkin; music is to sing "The Little Pumpkins; art is to finger paint a pumpkin orange.

WED: Topic is scarecrows; book to be read to children is "The Lonely Scarecrow"; math is to compare the sizes of different scarecrows; science is to talk about what scarecrows are used for; movement is to pretend to be scarecrows; art is to glue fabric, straw & decorations to make a scarecrow.

THUR: Topic is bats; book to be read to children is "Corduroy's Halloween"; math is to compare the sizes of different bats; science is to talk about how bats fly at night; movement is to pretend to be bats; art is to make coffee filter bats.

FRI: Topic is spiders; book to be read to children is "The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything"; math is to count how many legs spiders have; science is to go outside & look for a spider web; music is to sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider"; art is to draw a spider web using white chalk & black construction paper.

& this is for 16-month olds!! Will's week is learning about leaves, pumpkins, scarecrows, bats and spiders - sure sounds a lot more fun than my week!

When he's 2 years old, he starts Spanish lessons! He's already learning baby sign language (which he uses along with speaking the words as his vocabulary grows) that's helping his cognitive skills...only thing is, he expects everyone to understand his signing!!

Yep, he's starting early - but, then, his dad is a member of MENSA & a lawyer..my daughter, also a lawyer, is a magna cum laude graduate w/a masters degree in law..so both are pretty smart people (she gets her's from Jerri, not me)

...&, of course, I added my good looks to make him pretty close to perfect....hehehe

Hmmm! At that pace he will be ready for grad school by the time he's six!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

My older son was registered in a pre-school pilot program in N.J. where he was introduced to computer science at about 3 yrs of age. Probably why he is doing so well in SATCOM now!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ah, the cynic within says when does he have a childhood? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

One thing I will say,and truthfully. He is not going to be bored at the school. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

The cynic in me says where is the adulthood of those who missed out on such opportunity!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Most of us, alas, are them, Stuart /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nopity.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

In the words of Pink Floyd: "10 years have come and gone, I missed the starting gun, no-one told me when to run..." /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif

Maybe that's why we play with LBC's. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Stuart. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif More's the truth there!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Oh, I'll make sure he has a childhood! That's MY job!

In the photos below, he was making a "hmmm" sound & actually reaching down for the shift lever like he knew what he was doing (ya gotta look closely at the first 2 photos to see him leaning into the steering wheel):

Good Grief Charley Brown-
there are "students" in the Baltimore public schools that can't do that at 16 years.

I AM IMPRESSED!!!

There are kids in the NY school system that are starting English lessons at that age. My problem with this is that they are in my (old) school district and I paid taxes for this for 4 years.

Oh and before you start - I AM an immigrant.

Back on topic. Tony, good for you. Remember when he asks, Chemical Engineering is still the highest paid job for graduates...
