Just got a copy of the weekly lesson outline from Will's school (he's enrolled in the University of Alabama in Birmingham toddler/preschool program)...focus is "Fall":
MON: Topic is Leaves; book to be read to children is "Pooh & the Falling Leaf"; math is to see how many different leaves he can find outdoors; science is to play with & feel leaves; music lesson is to sing "The Leaves Are Falling Down"; art is to make a leaf rubbing
TUES: Topic is pumpkins; book to be read to children is "Its Pumpkin Time"; math is match the jack-o-lantern faces; science is to play with a real pumpkin; music is to sing "The Little Pumpkins; art is to finger paint a pumpkin orange.
WED: Topic is scarecrows; book to be read to children is "The Lonely Scarecrow"; math is to compare the sizes of different scarecrows; science is to talk about what scarecrows are used for; movement is to pretend to be scarecrows; art is to glue fabric, straw & decorations to make a scarecrow.
THUR: Topic is bats; book to be read to children is "Corduroy's Halloween"; math is to compare the sizes of different bats; science is to talk about how bats fly at night; movement is to pretend to be bats; art is to make coffee filter bats.
FRI: Topic is spiders; book to be read to children is "The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything"; math is to count how many legs spiders have; science is to go outside & look for a spider web; music is to sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider"; art is to draw a spider web using white chalk & black construction paper.
& this is for 16-month olds!! Will's week is learning about leaves, pumpkins, scarecrows, bats and spiders - sure sounds a lot more fun than my week!
When he's 2 years old, he starts Spanish lessons! He's already learning baby sign language (which he uses along with speaking the words as his vocabulary grows) that's helping his cognitive skills...only thing is, he expects everyone to understand his signing!!
