1500 Water Pump/Fan Clutch

I'm renewing the cooling system in my 1500 Midget over the weekend, I've had my radiator renewed, and have obtained a new waer pump, fan clutch & tolereance ring. Always one to try and be prepared prior to the start of a project I have a few questions. The new water pump appears to have a tolerance ring on it already. Do I remove this prior to attaching the fan clutch to the water pump? Also, what is the best way to attach the fan clutch to the water pump? The shop manual I'm using shows very little detail. Thanks for your help.

The fan clutch basically presses onto the water pump. The interferance is provided by the tolerance ring. It doesn't take too much effort to drive the clutch onto the water pump pulley. I basically chucked mine up in a vice and tapped the clutch on. I had to use a puller to pull the clutch from the old water pump so it was easy to see how it went back together. A new tolerance ring came with my new water pump.
Hope this helps,
JC

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif I just changed my leaky water pump, and was surprised to find the tolerance ring installed already. Used a three-armed puller to get the clutch off and a big C-clamp to press it back on. And a tip from someone who made this blunder, don't forget to bolt the fan blade back on BEFORE you install the radiator /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif. At least I didn't get as far as pouring the coolant in /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif.

Dave...lol. I just did that last weekend...lol. Yep the fan will not slide between the clutch and the radiator...lol.
