There is a Spitfire 1500 sitting in a local junkyard that showed up the other day. Some one grabbed the hard to but I'm thinking of grabbing the tranny.
Wondering if this would mate up to a 1300 and how to check if it is a overdrive unit. I should be able to get this thing dirt cheap. I'll head out Saturday and click some pics and see if any one needs any parts.

An OD tranny should have a switch on the shifter knob. If the tranny cover is gone, the OD is a large diameter extension on the rear end of the tranny. A standard tranny is quite slim. Good luck and happy hunting.

A later gearbox with the fine spline will not bolt up to a 1300 without changing the flywheel and clutch disc.

I put a late model o/d in my 71, but changed the flywheel and clutch assembly. Not hard but fiddly because the bolts are different too, spacers have to be aquired/made in order for it all to fit.

If it's not an o/d, it's not worth the trouble.

Is the motor in the car? I am looking for a backup motor for my 73 Spit 1500?

As stated above, to make it fit you'll need a 1500 flywheel, 1500 clutch (complete), the driveshaft out of the 1500, and you'll need a speedometer cable. To fit the non-OD single rail box to the 1300 you need to cut back the transmission tunnel in the car (the metal one, not the removable one). I assume the OD gearbox would also require cutting the tunnel.

This Spit don't happen to be a Blue one with 2 white stripes up the middle does it?

The car is at a local junkyard call Rubens. It is blue and the car is complete, motor and all. I will click pics and post so everyone can see what is there.

Well... if it looks like it could be this one...

then that's the one I used to have. I had if for about 20 mins after purchase. I got hit in the front end by the rear wheel of a sliding tow truck, and the insurance valued the total loss of the car at $15,000. Everything on it was in great shape except 2 things, the dash was cracked from the sun, and the 2nd gear synchro didn't seem to work to well. Overdrive, Electronic ignition, weber carb, so on. Insurance said the bonnet and rad were destroyed, and the frame was bent. But it was still running after the wreck.

Happened in northern Delaware. I suppose New York isn't that far away.

Well, I headed to the yard on Saturday and the car was gone. Really siprised as it had been there for a couple of weeks. Who picked it up?
Did find a TR7 at another yard though. Pretty much useless.
