Can anyone help me in the removal of my steering wheel? I know that the book says 'remove the retaing nut and pull off'. I have never been able to just 'pull off' a steering wheel that has been in place for years. The steering wheel itself and the wheel spokes are attached to an inner hub with 6 machine screws. Is it possible to remove the spokes and use two opposite screw holes to pull off the hub using a wheel puller? Will I damage anything?

There are a couple of ways to get the wheel off, but I have found that using some PB Blaster on the splines over the course of a couple of days may help loosen up the rust that has developed on the splines.
Once I have lubed it up as best I could, I run the nut down a bit (just to keep the wheel from popping off the shaft), and then pull on the wheel, rocking back and forth.
Resist the temptation to whack the shaft with a hammer, as this can damage the threads on the top of the column or if you have a collapsible type of column, it can mess it up further down.
