Does anyone know the Lucas part number for a 1980 1500 starter motor. I can get starter number 25079H, does that fit a 1500 Spitfire?

80spit, I think you will find all Spit 1500 starters are the same and TRF only list two, one is new, the other is a rebuilt.

True, but also much more expensive than, say, the $68.00 for a starter at Spitbits. Gear reduction starters are arguably better than the originals, but unless you've made substantial modifications to the engine, I doubt you'd see any real benefits to the greater power of the gear reduction starter.

i wouldn't be too worried about a gear reduction starter in a 4 cylinder, but there is the fact that they use less power and give more "umph".

now for a 6 cylinder...

also, BPNW sells the new starter for only 60 dollars.
