Okay I have no idea what this thing is. A torque flex strap thing I suppose. But it threads into the trans crosemember and attatches to a tab at the bellhousing. Maybe its not even the problem but I have two cars doing the same thing now. When I take off from a dead stop its like a quick rattle noise. I thought it was a bad bushing or something on my street car but now my new car is doing it and teh front end is brandy-new. Someone in passing today said its that transmission strap, But didnt know what it did? Could this be making my noise. Its not loose but just taught without exserting pressure to pull the motor at still. Thaughts? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Is that not a torque strap?? Sounds like it is set up correctly.

I think the strap is part of the 5 MPH federal crash test.
The car is supposed to be able to take a 5 MPH frontal hit with no serious damage. The strap keeps the engine from jumping forward and damaging the radiator.
I have mine still hooked up in my racer....figure it can't hurt.
Not sure if it would make any funny noises if it was left off or too loose, but I doubt it.
I have mine *just tight* (like you do, I guess).

sounds like i may have something else, or i could be hearing things. So hard to tell when it is so loud... I may put it on a lift later today to check the trans mount anways. i think i put something together wrong.

I had a rattle on my Cortina that kinda did the same thing.
It turned out to be the air cleaner (PO goofy setup). It would hit the under hard acceleration just barly and rattle like a rod bearing.
Loud car cavenous eng compartment small contact = the snare drum effect.
