1500 Gearbox Repair

I have a "79" midget 1500 gearbox apart. The reverse idler gear is shot. Several teeth have been chewed down to nothing. The idler gear has 17 teeth and the reverse gear on the laygear has 13 teeth. Does anyone know where I might find replacements? The laygear teeth are a little rounded. If I replace the idler gear only, will I be removing the gearbox again in the near future? Any other thoughts about the gearbox in general will be greatly appreciated. I am a new member to this forum and to MG's in general. Having a lot of fun in the garage though!

Welcome.

You need to ask this on the "Spridgets" (Sprite-Midget) section of this forum. This "MG" section is really intended for "bigger" MGs (MGBs, MGAs, etc) which do not share parts with your Spridget.

Your car has a trans that's shared with the Triumph 1500 Spitfire (along with the engine), so Triumphs are also a source of parts for this trans (earlier Spridgets use a different trans).

To be honest, when I blew a trans in my 1500 Spridget race car, I just bought a used one from a reputable junk yard for under $200.

Pretty easy to find via https://www.car-part.com/

G'luck! (and come on over to the Spridget area)
