1500 coolant plumbing

Hey all, I briefly took mine out for a nice trip of - 50 feet. Had to get rid of some rodent gifts next to the battery, but our neighbor's garage is without electricity to run the shop vac, so I drove it over to our garage to work on it.

Anyway, it seems I have yet another coolant leak :madder: , since I had a lovely odor of burning coolant coming off the exhaust pipe, and there's some green stuff in the catch pan. I'm suspecting I've got a loose hose coupling somewhere in the auto choke plumbing, because not all of the nipples are the same size, so I've got some heater hose that might make a nice fit at one end, but the other end I had to squeeze down hard on the hose clamp to make it hold. I suspect it's one of those not-so-good fittings that's leaking.

I had a thought: What if I took some vinyl tubing that's big enough to go around the nipple and take up the space between the big hose and the nipple? Do you think that might work better, or is it just as likely to leak? I was going to replace the coolant once it warms up a little more, but I'd like to get rid of the leak and figured then would be a good time to do it.

Good to hear from you Dave. The vinyl tubing might defeat the purpose of the barb on the fitting. It might make the hose slip off easier. I can tell you that I have done similar things in a pinch but I don't know how long it will last. I would tighten the hose clamp till I knew it deformed the tubing a bit. It should get you on the road though.

Thanks, I had wondered if the tubing might let the hose slip off over the hose barb, but short of adding in some extra hose couplers to change sizes, I can't think of a good way to get around it. I'll see how it turns out. :driving:

Slip one size tube in another, make em fit. Tape securely. Have a good Sat nite.

I went the other way and slipped the too small hose on the larger inlet/outlet tube. Least i know it aint coming off of there.
