I picked up a complete 127 and a ribcage yesterday to build for my sons Bugeye. I probably should have consulted with the list before I did it but I've never been accused of being particularly smart. Are there good ones/bad ones and what do these numbers tell me?

12CD-DA-H 89??

I'm not being secretive with the last 2 digits, I just cant read them from the picture I took. The guys going to pull it for me this weekend. It's in a 71 Midget junker.

All I can give you from me brains is

12 cd is a North American MKIII Midget Engine pre 1972, H means that it is High Compression, someone with a refernce book handy can help you more.

This is a good engine but a pre smog would have been better.

I too would be interested in knowing the differences in the 1275 engines. Unfortuantely, the plate has been removed from mine, but I'm guessing early '70's as it has smog ports too.

Reference Horler "Original Sprite and Midget", 12CD engines were fitted between Jan 68 and Aug 69

I thought only the cylinder head was different on the pre-smog 12G940 vs 12G1316. However, you can plug those holes very easily.

Well, if you don't want that particular setup, one of us will be happy to take it off your hands!
