Hi guys - I've been focused on the TR6 but I've been watching for a 1275 for the Bugeye. It seems like going with a rebuild-able core is probably the route to take since all the complete engines I've seen have been iffy.

Any ideas on what a complete but needing to be rebuild engine should go for?

Thanks!

Do you need any other parts? Might be a good idea to pick up a parts car to strip for the disc brakes, motor, rear end and assorted bits and pieces? Should be able to find something for a grand, sell off any unwanted parts and the stripped chasis, and have it end up not costing you much at all!

(That's if you've got the space, and a patient wife!)

Hi D - thanks for the fast response. I'm lucky in that the Bugeye I bought, while needing a full restoration, is complete and runs/drives. I also picked up a front disc kit/assembly when I bought her and a spare rib case gear box.

Most of the donor cars I've seen out here have been either total disasters or too nice to break, hence the focus on "just" finding a 1275 donor motor.

If you are patient and willing to drive a few miles you should be able to find a core with (sometimes complete with carbs) for about $100. Watch craigslist.

This may be of interest to you - complete 73 Midget for $650.00 (probably could be had for less). If you only need the engine you could it and sell everything else off, tranny, disc brakes etc. or the whole thing minus the engine. I might be interested in the tranny. If I had room for it I would buy it myself. Just a thought....

Thanks guys.

I have an email into that LA seller Roy, will report back once I hear from him.

If a deal comes together get me a parts list and we can go form there.

I'll report back once I hear from him.

Nice. The grille would get you a quick $100 on ebay... bumpers would sell quickly too. Ditto the fenders... at which point you probably would have recouped your purchase price.

AKA... free car!

If they're not completely rotten, I could use the sheetmetal under the rear taillights!

I hear you Duncan, I'm just up to my ears in projects and was looking to keep things a simple.

If i buy the darn thing maybe we can have a parts pulling party and just get it done with!
