When i drive the mg i use my sense plus some, if i hear a weird noise i always pull over to check. i didnt smell anything, and also when at a red light looked behind me after pulling away to see if there was anything on the road and it was clean. i would have pulled off sooner but the kmart was the only place with decent light. had to work today before i could change the oil, but i did take it for a drive and there were no more weird noises. maybe i will change the oil a little more frequently (i usually do it every 3k) from now on to help keep friction at a very minimum
 
Slightly off topic, the hose that burst here is the only line I haven't replaced because I can't find a part #. anyone know for a 1500?
 
Had the same thing happen to my midget. PO had a jury rigged fitting to the pressure guage. Don't know how far I went without oil but noticed a change in the sound of the engine about 3 blocks before I shut it down. Crank case completely empty and what a mess. Refill showed slightly lower oil pressure but engine seemed OK. Drove it another 6 months before another scew up of PO forced a tear down. Number 1 rod bearing showed signs of over heating and was down to the copper. Crank appeared undamaged. Engine had very low miles and I think it would have gone a long way on that bottom end.
Your oil pressure reading should tell you a lot. If you want, drop the pan and take a look.

My oil pressure is actually reading the same as it did before, so I hope that is a good sign
 
Sounds to me like you got away OK! Like Jack said, you did not lose oil pressure (at least not by much till the level got REAL low!) only the reading of it at the guage!
 
Well done, no noise, good oil pressure. Drive it like you stole it and enjoy.

Just don't let it happen again, LOL.
 
Ha yes, I will make sure that it wont, although the past few days ice noticed that oil pressure on the freeway has been dropping down to around 42
 
And of course that is exactly where it should be with an engine at running temp.
 
Alright good to know, I read somewhere that it should be at around 70, thnks, was getting worried
 
60 cold, 40 running hot, 12 or so at idle hot.

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering about acceptable oil pressure just the other day.
