1275 need to install water temp bulb.

My MG has a 1275 engine. I have a summit water temp mechanical gauge I want to install. The proper mounting place seems to be in the radiator. When I borrowed the motor from the Bugeye I stripped the existing housing fitting out of radiator trying to remove bulb. I found a pipe plug and carefully tapped the existing hole and installed a plug. It is all doped up and I am scared to try and remove. Making my radiator beyond use.

My 1098 had a bung hole in the themostate housing, but Moss doesn't show one. Are they available anywhere, and will they work on a 1275? if not where can installed the water tempature gauge bulb.

I will check, didn't know to look there. The motors I have worked on either had it in side of radiator or Themostate housing. Block would make better sense <span style="text-decoration: underline"> </span>
 
It is in the head on a 1275 below the t-stat. I've never seen a 1098 with t-stat housing that held a temp bulb.
 
Yea it was right there under #1, didn't see under my alum. paint. someone had rounded off brass so it was camoflauged with paint
 
Be carefull when installing in the head. I changed my original rad to a crossflow when i installed my 1275. When i screwed the bulb into the block i didn't know it required a spacer. It crushed the bulb. You don't want to find out the replacement cost for an original combination temp/oil gauge.

Fyi, I do have a nice original 65' radiator if you need one.
 
WOW too late now I already have installed it. Don't know if I crushed it or not. It is a seperate cheap Summit gauge,(Custom dash) so price won't kill me.

But thanks for the heads up since I have two Bugeyes I am redoing.

I guesss the only way I will know if I crushed it is will either work or not.
