1275 engine oil pressure warning light? oil filter warning light??

We're installing the wiring kit in our BE and the 1275 cc engine has a male electrical spade connection on the oil filter housing. The BE instrumentation has an oil pressure gauge but no warning light; I found an on-line MG Midget Mark III Owner's Manual https://www.1978mgmidget.com/1967_Midget_Owners_Manual.pdf that identifies a "Oil filter warning light (amber). The warning light indicates the need to change the oil filter element and engine oil (see page 18)." - the oil filter was the non-spin on, replaceable element type in the manual (the engine's converted to spin-on).
I am curious about using a warning light for an oil filter change, but the implication is that it is not an oil pressure warning light. We won't bother connecting it to anything, but I'd be interested in comments as to its effective purpose. Thanks, Doug

This was a feature on the 1098 engine, but not the 1275. Some dummy lights were added to the dash on later Sprites, but I don't think there were ever indicators in the instruments themselves. Other BMC cars, like the Morris Minor, which was not factory equipped with a gauge, had lights in the instruments. I don't think that filter housing was used for very long. I think I have only run into one of those once.

Warning light on the 10CC steel dash cars for too HIGH pressure. [Plugged filter]. I wired it up to the low pressure switch on my Datsun transplant along with the normal BMC gauge. Always nice to have a red warning light. Anyone with a steel dash car with the oil warning lamp I always thought could add the same low pressure switch.

Midget Mark III = Sprite IV -- I don't have that light or an accommodation for it on the dash, but I have the padded dash, too. Just an oil pressure gauge.

Only the Mk2 Midgets and the Mk3 Sprites had the steel dash with the light. Just had to be anal and get it to actually be useful!:rolleye:
