Cannot believe this has not been asked, but I get a blank when I use the search. Must be doing something wrong with the search feature, so sorry for asking this.

Have a 1978 MGB with a group 24 battery. It is a TIGHT fit. Is this what most of you use or do you use a group 26 or some other size battery?

While I am here, what is the groups thoughts on the plastic battery boxes?

My battery fit fine in the original bracket but is a very, very snug fit in the plastic battery box. Looking forward to that link getting resolved.
 
I went with a group 24 battery in my 77 but if I had it to do over I would definitely have chosen a group 26. The 24 is just to tight a fit. The 26 would just be easier to deal with.

I've never used a plastic battery box & don't see any need to do so unless you just want to spend the money - its a personal choice, I guess........whatever, always make sure your battery has a built-in handle.

But, then, I also use blemished Interstate batteries that I buy for $25.
 
Group 24 is the factory-specified size for rubber-bumpered cars; group 26 is the size that replaces the twin 6v. You want it to be tight so it doesn't move around! Don't leave off the holddown, though....

Does a 26 fit into one of those plastic liners then?
I'm charging the PO battery right now, so if it won't fit/charge, I'll follow Scotts lead.

Just barely.

The main reason I switched was not due to size, but durability. I got tired of replacing the battery every year or two. h
 
On a related note, has anyone fitted a hinge to their battery cover? I put in a cut-off switch, and it would be a bit more convenient to have a hinge on one side, and then just fasten two of the screws on the other.
