...and two cars looked at, but nothing came home. We looked at a bugeye in Coronado, Ca, which was solid but after seeing it in person, overpriced, and for some reason the 1275 ran like a 948. It was as if there was no timing advance, like it had a cork in it. It did have a Datsun 4 speed in it which shifted superbly, and a body that had no rust or prior rust repair and was quite straight with good panel alignment. It did have a mess of wiring and all the wrong gauges. But very solid. I'd have to paint it, fix up the interior, and sort out the motor.
The next was a supercharged MKII, show quality paint, Minilites, very well done in the details. But the **** thing wouldn't idle and had to keep the choke on, wiring was a mess of modified stock harness, and for some reason it blew some smoke when at WOT. And it was oil smoke, not fuel. But man, what a fast car! And another solid car with no rust or any repair that could be found. He's checking into the smoke and the lack of idle with his mechanic Friday. The motor is rebuilt, and done well, and I don't really know much about superchargers, so I can't diagnosis it.
If the MKII gets sorted out, I'll have it shipped over. Or if the bugeye goes down about $4k in price, thats a viable option. Too bad both had mechanical issues.
And for those of you who live in Southern California, wow, I don't know how you do it! A slow paced country boy like me can't handle that chaos!
Time for some wine, almost 18 hours of driving over 3 days, I am beat. If anyone has insight into Moss blowers and the issues with the MKII, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

You might check with Chequered Flag motors in Marina Del Rey. A friend of mine traded 2 Bugeyes to them last year. I understand they still have 1 of them although it doesn't show up on their inventory. I don't know which one they still have but they were both nice solid truly rust free cars. One white, one red. Original 948s, drum brakes etc. one had a weber and one had a factory hardtop. Both were nice drivers, always Arizona cars. I've never dealt with Chequered Flag but several friends have and they've been treated fairly. They have been known to listen to reasonable offers, especially for cars they want to turn.

Well that has to be frustrating! We will keep our eyes open and the right Bugeye will be found. Now, if anyone is looking for a MGB, I looked at a beauty of a B last week in Burbank. ......

Not really frustrating, just a long few days. I'm still talking to the two owners. If the bugeye, drops his price or the supercharged car gets repaired, I can have them shipped up here for about what it would cost to drive down and trailer it back up. I did get to have a fabulous meal at Stone Brewing Company, wonderful place! And we had a nice meal at Coronado Brewery and some nice beach time, something we don't have in northern california.

Man, that's a lot of driving (and time) for nothing.
