Click on one of our Banner Ads at the top of the site and look at our 11 Piece Whitworth Socket Set. We sell so many of these, we can hardly keep them in stock! Sizes range from 1\8" Whitworth up to 3\4" Whitworth!

These sockets are 1\2" Drive. Made from Vanadium Steel Precision hot forged. Correctly hardened and tempered Chrome plated, satin finish and perfect for working on your cars!

Don't file down another socket again! Don't strip the original Whitworth bolts on your auto! These sockets fit!

Very reasonably priced at $52.00! Some sets of this size from the UK can cost over $400.00! We sell only sockets in this set so that you don't have to buy more ratchets and extensions that you already have in your toolbox!

I'm glad you posted this. I've been meaning to pick up some Whitworth tools and now that I have a second car with Whitworth hardware I should really get some. I'll be placing an order soon. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just ordered the sockets & wrenches - I surely hope the quality is as good as you state! Thanks for the input/update

No problem! We have had NO negative feedback on these tools yet, which says something about the quality considering they are not Britool Brand tools! They are perfect for hobbyists who dont mind spending less on tools that fit! Enjoy!

Also, don't forget that our mainstay is hardware! We have the proper fitting fasteners for all of your restoration needs! Support this site as well, click on our banner ads!

Oh, I've got a good one for you then. If you have them, you will be the only one. Here we go...

Screws for securing the clock to an MG TC tachometer.

I eagerly await your reply. Hehe!

I just ordered the sockets! The wrenches are next! My 50 Daimler SS has lots of Whitworth nuts and bolts. Its the only car I've ever owned that uses Whitworth fasteners.

Basil

Bas - my '53 TD has Whitworth...it has its own little tool roll but I don't want to use them as they're almost perfec.t

If its anything like Jag tools their as rare as hen's teeth. If I had a set of original Jag tools in good condition, I wouldn't want to use those either!
I keep scouring EBay for original period tools for my Daimler. So far all I've managed to find is the Grease gun.

A guy just sold a complete new old stock MGA tool kit in the original roll on eBay. It went for many hundreds of dollars. I'd love to have one but not for what people are willing to pay for them! Especially since I don't really show my cars.

Last EType tool rool I saw on EBay went for around $800 as I recall. Yikes!

Most tachometer threads on British cars were either 0 BA (British Assoc.) or 2 BA. There are exceptions though! I would need to know how many threads per inch there are in the thread. BA is particularly fiddly. 2 BA for example has 31.36 threads per inch. We have BA threaded fasteners lets hope thats what it is.

If you cant find out, I may be able to. My Uncle in the UK ran a shop for 20 years restoring MG's amongst other things.

Regarding the sockets, we sell these for exactly the reason mentioned. You either dont want to use the original tools or dont want to spend $400 on a set of sockets.

For those of you who do want brand names like Britool or King Dick, we have those to! HAHA.

Basil and Tony! Your orders have been sent and you should have recieved a confirmation email by now! Thanks again!

I've been told many different sizes and even sent a set by a knowlegable fellow ut they were not correct. I've been told M4x.75, 3BA, 2BA and a few others. I have no way to leasure such a small female thread though. Here's a cut and paste from one reply...

"...these screws are M4 x 0.75, with a domed cheese head (is that called a filister?). The screws measure 0.154"/3.91mm diam. and are definitely NOT 3BA. I would have put money on them being the same as the tank sender, which I think we decided are 5/32" BSW x 32 tpi, so I initially tried some Meccano screws, but 0.75mm pitch is 33.9 tpi. Strangely, modern metric are M4 x 0.8, which does not figure in my tables, in the Tracey catalogue, or on my thread gauge!!!"

I have sent your question off to hopefully be answered once and for all. I'm not sure where to start with the info from the previous thread. M4 is apparently .70 and not .75.

My guess is that if the above info is correct they are the BSW 5\32 x 32 T.P.I. This thread has an outside diameter of .1562 which is pretty close to the .154 above. I'm pretty sure that it is something I can get but would have to ask.
