$11,000 Midget

I've a friend with a little RWA Midget that's every bit as nice but has low compression in #3 - think he was asking $7,500 before his engine went south.

Did he sell it? If so for how much?

The retail value of a concours Midget is right at $14,000 nowadays. I've seen it in a valuation book (I have it at work, not here, it says $14,500). I also saw one at the Richmond Triumph Register show for $14,500.

Too much for a Midget? Not to some folks.

The tide is apparently rising, my friends. Should we rush out and try to find "bargains" on Midgets now??? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

No, he just told me he's going to the shop with his trailer tomorrow to bring it home & to decide what to do with it....he really doesn't want to build the engine but has lots of $$$'s in the car!

Looks like a typical 74 Midget with lots of wrong stuff for 3 times what it's worth. Nice paint job on the outside only.

That color makes my mouth water. I've seen it on e-bay before and it still looks like a grape. Selfishly speaking however... I hope he gets it.

or fix the trunk deck...
or know the correct color of the interior..

I had my '71 on ebay a few weeks ago. It is clean and very original. I couldn't get the $6k opening bid.

$11k me thinks not.

When you get into the Midget/Sprite rare air, $10,000+, it better be something special.

At least the posting doesn't use the often abused "coucours quality" label. "Concours quality" is, to me at least, a misnomer. I can go along with "concours history" as long as it includes the documentation of the car's participation in a specific councours judging. The status of the event, the credentials of the judges, and the criteria used for determination of originality, correctness, and condition would be quite important.

This car ad draws focus to originality andt then highlights the recent respray. A potential bidder would have to justify in his/her mind whether these two can coexist and still yield a high dollar valuation.

A month or so back, some guy listed a thoroughly ordinary Sprite or Midget, I forget which, on the LA Craigslist, asking $18,500. Compared to that one, this is a bargain. (And compared to the distance to the moon, Tierra del Fuego is right around the corner...)

I have a really hard time with the combination of the purple exterior and beige interior. I can't imagine why someone would paint a car for resale and choose a color than many people wouldn't like.

Seasoned LBC enthusiasts affectionately call call such folks "DPOs". /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/angel.gif

Well, my friend drove his home today - runs like a scaulded cat!! His body & interior is way better than the one we've been discussing plus he already has the 5-speed conversion...so, he's thinking pull the 1275 & beef it up a bit...told him to come over when I pull my '63's engine trans to replace the clutch & see how its done...then he can use my hoist & an engine stand...as well as that thing is running though (even with the low compression), I'm betting its just a bad hone on that 1 cylinder!
