100M for sale - Scam

Although there are a few scam warnings on this forum, I haven't come across this one, so here it is.

While browsing Healey listings online, I came across this 100M:

https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page/170481/1956-austin-healey-100m/

A very restorable 100M for $7000, in Indonesia..... To me it screamed SCAM! That said, stranger things have happened, and I thought an email costs nothing, so why not ask a couple of questions? I sent a general enquiry, and very quickly received a reply with more photos, including a BMIHT certificate (issued in 2001 to William D Samuelson, the previous owner) and a copy of the Indonesian title. I replied asking for contact details of the previous owner, and a photo of the car with a recent newspaper, to prove the car was with the advertiser.

The response was that the previous owner had died 6 years ago, and that I could come to view the car at any time! I once again asked for a photo with a recent newspaper. No reply.

I then emailed Bill Meade at the 100M registry. He very quickly replied, telling me the ad was indeed a scam, and the car belongs to a member in Texas. He also told me that "the guy advertising this car is in Canada but he will send you an Indonesian title and ask for $1,000 deposit , then you never hear from him again. He stole all the cars info and photos from the internet when it was sold a couple of years ago. Who knows how many people he has stolen $1,000 from."

As the old saying goes "If it sounds too good to be true....."

I recognized the car from an old add..thieves are real creeps..

Responded to an add for a healey and the guy responded he was "deaf" and therefore could not respond to a phone call..

Actually used the name of a deaf person fictitiously......incredible!

I obviously fell in that fraud. The guy sent me a contract, signed by a lawyer in indonesia with the approval of his signature. The money had to be transferred to an indonesian account. After that the contact by email ended. Are there other people connected with that case? Hoe does Bill Meade at the registry know that the guy is in Canada? Does he know his name? Who can help?

Who can help?

Gimme an address and for 3K I can have the Menace give 'im a tune up.

Only reason it's more than the usual is he's in another country.

Hi Scholz,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I don't know any more details than what I posted, but I was surprised that there wasn't any info on the web for what turned out to be a fairly well known scam! I am sure Bill Meade would be very interested to hear from you, he replied to me very quickly. Apparently he is putting together all the information he can on this particular case. It would be nice to see someone like this get what he has coming to him! Good luck.

Apologies for the late reply, haven't been on here much, too busy working and driving my Healey!
