Hi Guys
Just got back from a drive down the back roads (hwy 4) and freeway (580) I was surprised how nice the car ran on the freeway, traffic was light heading west, the road was smooth so I opened her up got to 100 mph pretty quick at about 4700 rpm's. It was fun so now I can say it will go over 100 mph, but I don't think I will do it again. It was fun once. I used a gps for the speed check on the speedo. it's pretty accurate.

I haven't done this for some time (or I have no "clear and distinct memory" as they say before the judge), but I think my TR3 would be straight up 5000 RPM at 100; with the OD engaged, quite a bit less than 4700.

Dan,

I am six mos. behind you and BRG with envy.

Nice work,

Steve

Fun, isn't it!

This reminds me of when I met with my Car Club and we went down along a twisty road for an ice cream outing. We had 10 or 12 British Cars going 75mph. I had not had my TR4 for very long so that really raised the hair on my neck. I was in the middle of the pack so had to keep up.

Just what I told the officer, "Keeps up with traffic pretty good!"

Didn't they do a publicity thing with the TR3 running one for several days over 100mph non stop except to change drivers and add fuel?

Right! "[In 1959, a] Triumph team established eight new FIA class E (1,600-2,000cc) records at Monza in Italy. Set with a TR3, driven by a team of students from Cambridge University, the records included 5,000 miles at an average of 102.5 miles per hour." -- from Mike Cook's Triumph Cars in America. If I remember the story correctly, the team just missed the one major goal of running 100 hours @ 100 mph+ when one of the drivers missed a shift and overrevved the engine. :frown:

Speaking of airing them out-Our club British Motoring Club of Arkansas recreated the first run our club did 20 years ago--this was a few weeks ago-it was west of Little Rock in a a hilly curvy road area called Little Italy/Wye Mountain--we sent half in one direction and half in the other direction-it was fun meeting in the middle waving to the other group as we passed-its easy to amuse a british car owner-steve bonds driving a 69 tr6 and restoring 59tr3a
