TR2/3/3A 100 miles on the TR3 on Sunday!

I finally got a chance to put some miles on the TR3!!! Yesterday, the weather was outstanding, so my wife and I decided to go out to my inlaw's lake house on Mason Lake. It's 32 miles away from our place in Olympia, and I asked my wife if I could take the TR3 while she chased with the kids in the Oldsmobile. She even suggested I take our three year old (the cutie in my sig.)

Strapped Becca's old car seat (the booster needs a shoulder/lap belt combo, and the TR3 just has lap belts,) then drove up 32 miles of 60 MPH highway 101 and 45mph country switchbacks. Really fun. I gave Becca a pinwheel to hold, and she just watched it spin the whole trip.

My parents met us at my inlaw's place...My father and I made a run into Shelton to pick-up lunch (15 miles or so)-- he drove the TR3 into town, I drove back...I forgot how much legroom the passenger seat has!) ...Drove back to Olympia after going out to dinner...both kids rode in the Olds -- meaning harder into corners! Was a little chilly coming back, but so much fun.

The TR3 ran absolutely great! The oil pressure was 70 at 60MPH cruising and 30 at idle. The temp never climbed above 190deg (just a smidge past centerline.)

When I got back home, I had put 100 miles on it. The longest trip prior to this in the 16 months I've owned it was about 30 miles round trip.

Sounds great!!! Similar experience to my wife's and my "fall color trip" last fall thru the Utah mountains, except there was no chase car, and the cell phone said "no service" a good part of the time.

Put 230 miles on the TR7...the first "long" drive after sinking LOTS of money into mechanicals....

Hi Sam! I bet if you had the windscreen off you would still be picking the bugs out of your teeth!
My two is a daily driver from mid March til late Oct. About 5 miles of city then 25 of highway each way. It's still the best hour of each day! You need a good long road trip. How about Rally In The Valley first weekend in July in the Okanogan. It's a great weekend and I am sure some of your club members come up. Lots for you to write about.

Would love to come up for the rally, but it's the same weekend as the PNW Region of Classic Car Club of America's Grand Classic. It happens once every four years, so I'll be there photographing Duesenbergs, Packards, Bugattis etc...

And yes, I just washed all the bugs off the windscreen and apron! The first one hit the windscreen and my daughter said "something melted daddy." I had to explain it was a bug, and she didn't quite understand.

In a couple of more years you will be able to say "it wont have the guts to do that again" I remember the first time my dad made that statement.... I laughed for about 20 miles. Sorry to any Okanagan Club members reading. My Okanogan spelling error had no implication to the number of NOG'S consumed..... It is a great weekend so put it on the list for next year. Too bad about your previous commitment. You may have to force yourself to enjoy it anyway. Brian
