Have a friend looking for a grille for his 100. Anyone got one laying around or suggestions where to look for one? Any experience with the repops?

Some years ago I saw one hanging on the wall of a friend's shop. Google "Kaptain Krunch" in Deltaville VA. Call and ask for Krunch or google "Naughty Nell" also in Deltaville and ask for Nell, Krunch's wife. Please tell them hi from Michael on NAMASTE.

I attempted to use a "re-pop" due to the poor condition of the slats in my original. Hopefully by not stating where I got it, there won't be any issues with Reid. It didn't work out on my car. Fortunately they took it back and I only lost ~$75 in shipping on this deal.

Attached is one picture of the height and slat profile difference. The original profile is traced on the cardboard, the mark on the right is where the peak of the surround piece should be. It should be noted that even though the profile difference looks huge, when the grille is in the car, it's hard to notice. The bottom (not shown) is lined up, demonstrating the 1/4" or so lack of height in the "re-pop". I have a variety of other shots showing profile/fitment problems my body guy deemed not worth the effort to try to overcome, PM me if you would like to see them.

I ended up using the original grille, having the bezel re-chromed and the slat assembly fixed by the body guy. It is a pretty long and involved story, meaning too much to type unless somebody is really interested all what went into it. In the end I have a non-original finish on the slats but they look very good, not all "blinged-out" in full on polish chrome.

While he was in the process of fixing the original grille, I purchased another original in pretty mint condition from a local club member for ~$400. I decided to stick with the original-original since the body guy was pretty far along with the work on it and the front shroud bodywork was already done to the original part. I don't think I want to part with that spare grille but they come up quite a bit on ebay in that price range, even with re-chroming (if necessary) you'll end up with a similar amount in the redone original as the "re-pop", which I think are close to $1000 all in for both pieces.

Later,
Wally

Like the cop on the beat, I don't make the rules; I just try to enforce them.

And it's fine to mention suppliers by name as long as you stick to the facts and don't question their motives or heritage. The fact that they took back the grille without argument is a plus for them, actually.

Yes, you lose a bit on postage/shipping, but the Post Office and/or other shipper is just providing a service and does not warranty the product that they transport. Occasionally a seller refunds the buyer's shipping costs, but that's generally in the category of "above and beyond the call of duty."
