Hi All, I have no idea where the roof frame should fit in on my 58 BN4. Car was totally dismantled when I bought it. Looks like it should fit over the rear wheel arches, but there is nothing there to fit it in. Help wanted.

Also some mystery parts, no idea what they do and where they go.

Thanks.

Hi, That is the frame I have. Think it's from a later BN 4. Mine is SN# 54xxx.

That frame is from a later car, somewhere above 68960. I understand they are easier to put up as opposed to the earlier frame.

Sure the photo is the top of the BN 4 build at Abington, when the production shifted from Longbridge to MG plant
at arrival of all chain material the MG technician let immediately the Longbridge top frame in the rubish-
I also have one oldest 100 -6 Longbrige 1957 and the erection of the top ask 15 minutes and TWO person
I have a long practice and can do it alone - BUT children under 12 year that transit nearest, learn a lot of NEW words
at MG technician simplify all the work with TWO HOLES and elimination of all the hock rail etc etc
This is the photos of the correct frame for 100 6 Longbrige Infamous frame if you need more help contact me

I also have a '59 BN4 and just received the new Robbins top. The issue is that placing the top over the frame, the sides don't stretch enough to be secured. It almost seems like the 2 posts of the frame that insert into the holes are too long. The holes measure 11/2 inches deep. Your and my frames are for the Abingdon cars, right? Did you ever get your top installed?

YES
But my car was a 100/6 1957 from Longbridge
I also have a new TOP probably acquired from A Head 4 Healey GB
Work to fit the top was NOT easy but NOt Dramatic (as my plexiglass rear window on Hardtop)
I Worked on the top by Myself at the body shop, but have few photos of the work - meaning that was easy to fit
The Longbridge cars have a very bad erection TOP system- unlessy complicated- Abington changed the TOP FRAME in one more FUNCTIONAL system

here are some photos from my upgrade album
One OTHER Longbridge CAR -TOP

Hope that my photos can help you CIAO!!

Great to tee all of these photos. I hope yo can help. I have an early (Longbridge) BN4. The hood frame that came with the car is bent, rusty and has a screw or two missing. I thought this was the reason that it is hard to fold down and slot under the rear rim of the cockpit. I just purchased a new replacement and it looks like it won’t fit either. Before I send it back, is there a technique to fitting it and folding it down?

The Longbridge BN4 top is the only top that mounts to side rails where the base of the legs can slide front to rear. These are some photos, not of my car, but an original BN4 that might help. Finally, the instructions for folding the top can be found at > Longbridge Top < .

Thanks but doesn't help me. I have the Abingdon model that has the removable frame. I was hoping someone would have a good method of storing the top to protect the big rear window. Interesting info.

Basically you use the same method, it’s easier with the removable top. Fold the top ensuring that the window is kept as flat as possible then stow it by placing the window part flat against the sloping back of the body. Then just fold and lay the frame in place.

Raising the AH 100/6 Longbridge TOP is a serious affair -
FIRST -needs to be TWO people - SINGLE people must be very skillful and calm otherwise AH can suffer serious damages
SECOND peoples need good coordination -
THREE times to raise can vary from a few minutes to one hour (depending on your experience in this work) -
FOUR rainy times help a lot in the FAST raising
FIVE inverse operations can be a little easier- BUT stay alert to your plastic window
WARN-boys under 12 years, nearside your car, during raise and unraised operation, can learn a lot of new words

I use a bath towel to protect the window. The Longbridge description was in response to HedleyA.

Many thanks for the photos John, this is really helpful. The rails that came with the car do fit under the cockpit rim as shown, with a lot of 'persuasion'. But they had been bent and welded to fit. They were missing screws, rivets and paint, and were pretty rusty so I bought new ones. They are the correct 16mm Longbridge BN4 hoops but it looks like I will need to modify them to fit. I will post photos if/when I get them working. Thanks again, Hedley
