My door shut face finishers are dull and appear to be heavily oxidized. What should be the appearance when installed? Any advice on special treatment or is the matte finish correct?

I've polished mine with Simichrome polish in the past. They come up like bright aluminum (which is what they are.) However, it's tough to clean the recesses in the textured area of the dark polish residue. I'm not sure if that was the factory finish or not. I've read that Naval Jelly for aluminum can remove the heavy oxidation but I've never tried it.
