If there was a way to do a hot rod TR3, this is the way to do it. Talked to the owner and the TR was pretty much a basket case. Rust on the body and frame etc... He loved the looks of the TR3 and went with it. The only parts that are left are the seats windshield and the basic body. The quality of the work is top notch. This type of restoration is not for everybody but I loved it, And it is one more TR3 on the road. Albeit it only kinda looks like a TR3.

Because it's his car, and it should please him; just like your car should please you. Some folks get their kicks trying to restore their cars to be exactly like thousands of others, right down to the factory defects. Others like to create something a bit different (or a lot different). It's all good.
 
Randall is right.
With so many TR's they are so far gone, to restore it to the original specs. Would cost a lot of money. To do what you want to do with your car and your money is up to you. I have seen many very nice correct TR3's, But not many TR'3 with a v-8 that looks that great. Again quality of workmanship is every thing.
 
Its basically to each his own. My thought is not every Triumph needs to be restored to factory specs - this one sounded far gone, it now still has a Triumph look yet showcases some very good customization skills. I'd love to see it. But for what its worth, I like the Racestorations one better too since its roots are still mostly TR and it just has a look I can see getting to myself.

I totally agree. I have such respect for guys who can engineer fabricate and assemble this type of car. A lot harder than it looks - especialy to have it all come out so tidy.
