If I stripped the carbs down to just the basic body and supplied new shafts and bushes or oversize shafts and took them to a machine shop what would the cost be approx?

The cost would likely be your carburettors. Look up Curto's chaannel on YouTube - one episode he rebushes a carburettor. There are so many considerations aside from the exact diameter to drill and what size to ream, including the depth. He uses bespoke cutters. A machine shop will likely drill fully through into the throat of the carb, instinctively. This leaves a gap right at the throttle plate and a useless carb as a result, for example.
