Back in the 1950s, our dad would take me and my brother to the Fort Worth rail yards. Great memories.

I sure wish Connecticut were a bit closer to California - geographically speaking anyway.

Unfortunately, that route is away from Oklahoma.
 
I see that Union Pacific Big Boy #4014's route will pass through Harrisburg, PA this summer on its way to Philadelphia. Something to look forward to.

I haven't seen a official scedule but read that #4014 would be in Philadelphia for the July 4th celebration. I did a search asking if it would be passing through Harrisburg. Here's Google's reply:
Yes, the Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 is planned to pass through the Harrisburg, PA area this summer (2026) as part of its nationwide tour. It is scheduled to operate on the former Pennsylvania Railroad line between Harrisburg and Cleveland, OH, likely occurring between May 25 and July 29.
Key Details Regarding the Harrisburg Visit:
Planned Route: The locomotive is anticipated to move east through PA, potentially visiting Scranton/Northeast PA in June, and later using the Norfolk Southern line that runs through Harrisburg (specifically moving west towards Altoona via the Horseshoe Curve).
Cab-Signal Waiver: Norfolk Southern has filed for a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) waiver to allow the 4014 to operate in cab-signal territory between Harrisburg, PA, and Cleveland, OH.
Crowds & Viewing: Similar to other tour stops, huge crowds are expected to turn out to see the locomotive, which is visiting to celebrate America's 250th birthday.
Keep in mind that while the 2026 trip is highly anticipated, tour routes and dates can change, so it is recommended to check the official Union Pacific 4014 schedule for updates.
 
We have a really cool steam engine here,but they won't let them use
the tracks for excursions.I have yet to see it running.It's the NS 611.

Thanks for that. I checked the UP 4014 page, and found the eastern routes aren't public yet.

Even if it doesn't make a public stop in Connecticut, I'd sure like to take some friends to see a steam locomotive moving past. My dad often took me and my brother to see the Fort Worth rail yards in the 1950s, where we watched steam locomotives and diesel-electrics in full operation. I'll never ever forget standing on a bridge over part of the railyard, and a steam locomotive passed under us, and the guys in the cab blew us a howdy using the steam whistle. Man - talk about loud!

I'd really like to pass that experience along to some younger friends.

What might become one of BigBoy's more interesting photo ops will be its crossing the Rockville Bridge (crossing the Susquehanna River just north of Harrisburg, Pa)..."it is the world's longest stone masonry arch railroad bridge, built by the Pennsylvania Railroad between 1900 and 1902 to replace earlier structures at the same location. The 3,820-foot-long, 48-arch structure is a National Historic Landmark and remains in active use today for Norfolk Southern and Amtrak trains."

I know it's stopping in Sayre, PA on the 12th (town is virtually right on the Pa/NY border)...my wife's hometown. From there it's scheduled to make a major public display in Buffalo, New York, before heading to Scranton, Pa. and the Steamtown Museum.

Dang, the closest it comes to civilization, Oklahoma, this year is Kansas City.
 
It came through Indiana a couple hours north of us. Neat. I took a few pictures, but if we go to see it's return trip west I think that I'll just watch and take it all in.

A thing of beauty, but the close up of that bridge is less than flattering.
Rusty rails and the concrete is shabby on top, but so am I.
