MGB-GT GB Waterpump for 18V block?

I was hoping to make my 1966 MGB GT look as original as possible, but I have replaced the original engine with an 18V block. Is it possible to mount a GB waterpump to this block or is this a no no?

The holes appear to line up, but the vanes extend into the block further with the GB pump.

CJ,

No definitive answer for you. But a couple of questions. Did all 18V engines have electric fans in front of the radiator? Are you going to have a pump mounted fan? If so, I'd use the GB pump, if it doesn't put the fan too close to the radiator. On the other hand, I'm a bit surprised at the gap between the vanes and the body of the GB pump. Please take this with a grain of salt.

I didn't think any MGB's came with an electric fan. It would be an aftermarket upgrade. I agree that it is a bit strange that the new GB pump vanes extend that far from the base of the pump.

My79 had 2 factory electric fans also. PJ

I had a 1977 which also came with electric fans. I think 18V engines were installed from the second half on 1974 onward, but the electric fans came in 1977 (that from my memory which may or may not be accurate, but still beats the web's AI guesses and unlike them I'm admitting it could be wrong).
