I guess it's official now. I talked with Jack a few weeks back who said he and his dad would be making the trip across the pond with their white 6-cylinder FIA big Healey racer to compete in the Road America Healey World Challenge. It wasn't public knowledge yet, so I kept it on the down low until today's announcement. Looks like we'll have some real world-class drivers on the track for this event.
Check out the best video on the internet! Jack Rawles at the wheel of a rare 100S at the recent Goodwood Members Meeting in England. See the duel between Jack and a C-Type Jaguar that went right down to the checkered flag, resulting in a podium finish for Austin Healey and Jack Rawles!

Be sure to introduce yourself and congratulate Jack when you meet him and his father Bill at Conclave '24 - Elkhart Lake this coming September 15-20! They will be in attendance to mingle and tell their stories of racing across the pond.

Not registered yet for Conclave? Just go to > Home < and make your plan to attend one of the world's largest Healey events!

And plan on coming early to attend the Healey World Challenge event at Elkhart Lake Wisconsin's historic Road America racecourse immediately preceding conclave on the 13th-15th. This will be an incredible weekend as "The Cars of Donald Healey" is the featured marque. Be in attendance to cheer on Jack and Bill as they will be taking on the best Healey racers from the U.S., Canada and abroad. Ticket packages for the Healey World Challenge will be released very soon so look for a future announcement.

Be sure you stop by the Conclave '24 Regalia Store at > Home < to get yourself outfitted in the latest Conclave swag! New items are being added so be sure to check back often. We have also negotiated alternate shipping with our regalia supplier making your shopping experience even better.

The Wisconsin Chapter looks forward to seeing you all in September!

Great drive and too bad he did not have a rear-facing cam so we could see more of the battle as he held #11 off.
The cars' slip angles seemed to visibly increase as the race wore on and the tires wore out as the cornering speeds picked up.

With two cars coming over from the UK with the BRCC Racing Team, we all may be competing for 3rd and 4th .......
Still looking forward to racing on this awesome track once again, and participating in this spectacular event.

I'm not a racing fan, unless there is some real excitement and some real skill being demonstrated. That race had both. Some edge of the seat moments. Not that it makes any difference, but was his speedometer inop? Curious what the speeds were.

Hi Dougie--

I know from what I see and read that Messrs Rawles are fast drivers with, no doubt, highly developed cars. OTOH if you have raced at RA and they have not you definitely have home court advantage. Plus you have probably raced with a number of other drivers and will know more about their likely reactions, etc. than will the Rawleses.

When I'm behind someone I cannot pass because their car is a bit faster and/or is a fast driver I try to stay in touch with them and get in their mirrors, etc--you just never know what may break your way, esp. when you're lapping through the field later in the sessions.

BTW I am registered to race the Ginetta at the upcoming LRP Historic Festival set for 08/29 to 09/02. If they are I'll try to stop by their rig and get in their heads by telling them that they face some very stiff competition from you.

Good luck and please take and post some good video.

We're getting closer ....who's planning to go!
I'll be hauling 2100 miles one way, so no excuses that's it's too far away....:driving:

Reid....F-150 ? I'm sure Tom Kovacs at Fourintune has plenty of cars laying around you could barrow for the week. Team Healey West Coast will be pitted across from the huge Minnesota Big Healey tent in the middle of the paddock at "island # 7".
I think the Rawles Motorsports 53' hauler will be pitted next to us.

I'd be happy for the loan of a Healey, but I need something to drive from the airport in Milwaukie, where I arrive, to Sheboygan, the meet headquarters, and back.

The Ford pickup was literally only a couple of bucks more per day that a tiny economy car, so I figured it was a good move to get the truck.

I put the final touches on my fresh "Ruddspeed" race motor in preparation for the Columbia River Classic with SOVREN. This will be a great vintage race "shake-day" weekend in conjunction with the All British Field Meet on Labor Day weekend in Portland, Oregon. Looking forward to a good event to be able "fine-tune" the all the major items before making the 2100 trek to Road America for The Healey World Challenge.....

Life got in the way and forced me to cancel my plans. That said, I am really hoping there's some good video taken that makes it way to the interwebs. Good luck to those coming from near and far to slice and dice at Road America...

I'd like to thank everyone to who stopped by our paddock, it was great to finally meet so many of you on the forum. I had a great weekend of racing, # 414 ran incredibly well the entire event. The rust on the driver really was the only downside once we arrived in Elkhart Lake. My goal was to finish in the top ten and I finish 7 & 8 respectively in the two all Healey races in a field of about 50 cars. Team PDX had a great time, I wish we could have stayed for the entire Conclave, but I still have a day job which pays for all my race activities. In the final "All Healey" race, I though someone blew their motor when the green flag dropped and lifted anticipating an oily track, in hind-sight it was the dust from the oil absorbing material laid down from the previous race. I wasn't able to make up the difference, but did have fun keeping the rest of the pack behind me. See video below.

Dougie,
The video is 'private'. Was good to met you. It was our first time to Road America. As a corner worker during the late 80's / early 90's, I knew the story of Brian Redman's cat. His grave is still there between turns 9 and 10.

Dougie, thanks for the ride along! Love the sound of that engine!! I hate it that I missed the race. We made it to Conclave, just, and couldn't make the week before for this race. When we lived in the Chicago suburbs we'd often go to races at Elkhart Lake, so I know the track pretty well. That made watching the video even more fun... we'd generally end up on the grassy knolls by the Corvette bridge. And.... boy does your car sound good!!... I could listen to the soundtrack all morning!

Steve

More great memories to enjoy....:arms:
