I have fixed quite a few crashed cars since 1971.
Here is a Tr3a hit from behind that got into the fuel tank.Note the used saddle panel. Took a floor,rear apron
and a lot of work.

Nice work. Glad you could save it. Wonder if the spare tire stopped further damage?
 
The truck bumper over-road the lower part and smashed items in the boot into the tank /saddle.
As I recall , at the time it was 12k$ or so. (not a record $$) The alloy tank did OK and did not split.

Were you in the car when it got it? That would have been quite a jolt!
 
Thanks MD for posting the pics. The car I am building has major rear body damage from rust, and seeing someone else go through it gives me hope. I am in a learning process here with welding and fitting to repair the damage. Basically, over my head with how to do the repair, so I will be posting this when the clouds clear.
