"AH" Aeroscreens

I had a tech colleague do a 3D print copy of my original AH Brooklands windscreen, with the idea of casting a copy. The result was quite impressive (see photo) and should be a good foundation for casting. Two questions:
  1. Would there be any interest from any Forum members in getting copies? More castings would be cheaper. We could get a good price estimate once we know how many to make.
  2. Also, there is only one firm left that does chrome plating in our area (Pittsburgh) and their prices are crazing and quality is not the best. Any suggestions on a source for chrome plating?

There have been a couple of people manufacturing replicas over the years. The originals were aluminium and so are the reproductions. are you thinking of doing the same?

The first reproductions of these - as far as I know - was a batch of 20 made in 1993 (I remember that it was the same year that Geoff Healey passed away) by one of the British restorations shops (I forget the guys's name, but someone will likely recall it). They were quite good and I reserved two of them.

I stored them away until I retired (from the Army, which had me traveling all over) and finally installed them one day in about 2006 or so. I love them. While it's kind of a shame not to have the regular windscreen installed and ready to be lowered into the "racing position" since that looks so great, I think these look absolutely smashing and I have run without top or stock windscreen for many years. (Yes, I've gotten caught in the rain more than once.)

The aeroscreens also deflect more headwind than you might expect. Really, they are little different from using the stock windscreen in the upright position.

Thanks for the background information. Yes, we are planning on doing the screens in aluminum.

Reid - are you thinking of Peter Jaye who made a run of AH aero screens?

A detail to consider when producing these aeroscreens is how they will look when mounted on the curved shroud. Some people feel that they look a little odd when mounted directly onto the curved shroud as they are not level and instead have what I guess you could call a "negative dihedral."

Back in the 1990s to alleviate this and make the aeroscreens more level and thereby give a better appearance, Paul Schwartz made and sold some small aluminum wedges that fit between the aeroscreens and the shroud. I used them with my aeroscreens and I'm glad to have them as I think they produce a better overall appearance. The aeroscreens still do not sit perfectly level, side to side, but the angle is now small enough that it's not distracting. Here's a pic:

Paul may still have some, and/or still have the drawings and source if you're interested. He lives in Orinda, California. PM me if you can't find his contact info in the club directories and I'll try to put you in contact.

Hi Reid,
We were thinking of producing the same thing ourselves so it would be great if Paul still had some available

Paul did not have any available when I spoke with him about two years ago and no plans to make any more. These are, however, included with the Cape International aeroscreens, but not sold separately as far as I know.

Just contacted Cape in the UK; they currently have one set available but not cheap at 850 pounds for a pair and the (very cool) rally spec ‘subscreen’ is another 350 pounds. Shipping and taxes to get them here to NZ would probably double that so interested if anyone in the US also makes them?
