TR4/4A Window Regulator Leather Washers

I am ready to put my side windows back in. It has been some time since disassembly and I kept the old parts. When I ordered replacement leather washers (that go under the clip that holds the regulator arms to the metal strip at the bottom of the window) I only removed 2 on each side but they show it takes a total of 8 (4 on each side I assume). Were do the extra 4 leather washers go? Are they doubled up or does one go between the regulator arms and the metal holding strip on the inside as well as the outside? You cannot tell by looking at the workshop manual or any other blowup. Bruce

I thought I only used two for my re-assembly - but just looking at the parts manual, it calls for 8. I'll look when I get home...

Everything I see is very vague on their use. I assume the extra washers must go on the inside of the window flange and the regulator but would like someone to verify. I only took two off each side between the push on fasteners and the window flange. Should those leather washers be coated with grease before assembly? Bruce

I used four in each door, one on either side of the window (between regulator and window, and between window and clip).

I did not grease. I put the smooth side of the leather against the window.

(Apologies for the late reply!! Hopefully this helps someone in the future.)

This is a timely thread. The right window in our TR4A can barely be moved. Can a photo be posted? In the 56 years we have owned the car I have never seen the inside of the door. In advance, thanks.

Here is a picture before I connected the window, plus the waist seals, etc. I also found this video to be helpful:

Thanks for the valuable information. I’ll study the YouTube before I start. Also, I’ll get some of the leather washers.
