MGB factory hardtop question...

Hello all ... I have a factory HT that I've sanded, primed and rattle canned to less than perfection but whatever. I'm thinking that the rubber header trim for a convertible will fit the hardtop. And how about the B's door trim for the area around the HT window? Finally... for mounting the hard top to the car. After removing the convertible top, I see there is no way to insert the top securely. Is it safe to assume that the attachment for the boot cover is also for the HT? Thanks all...

There are "receivers" (for lack of a better term) on the bottom-back of the HT to fit into the two teardrop hold-downs, the seal at the windscreen is indeed the same as the soft top header rail. The door window seals are a conundrum, I've fitted the same seals as the doorframe ones. A set of brackets hold the front of the HT quarter-light frames. I'll post photos tomorrow. MacGregor in Canada has the rubber parts. Great guy, used to work at Abingdon.

This is a great help. My soft top doesn't have the brackets where the sidelight fits. But it looks like Moss has it. Then it should be a simple task of removing the soft top with its' bracket and replacing it with the moss part! The dilemma is the window trim around the hard top. So, time to start ordering!!! Many thanks again...!!!

I went to the Moss parts and found two different "sockets" for the bow. I assume they'll work for the hard top. But I see two different "sockets. One for $14.99 the other for $25.00 appear to be the same except the cheaper one is chrome. What's up?

Only ones I've ever seen were chrome. Maybe later cars (after '68?) had those black ones, I don't recall. If you don't aspire to a concourse trophy, I'd say go with the chromed ones!

Iguess it's a way for MOSS to get a few extra$$$. Like the black shifter trim...better chrome anyway in a totally black interior. Thanks again.

To all... Just received my seals from MacGreagor in Ontario. Very helpful guy. I have new sockets and am waiting for the header seal as we speak! Thanks to all who replied. Will post final outcome after returning from Arizona in pril!!

Which top frame do you have? If it's the fold-down style, you can put the quarter-light chrome brackets between the top's frame mounts and body and just stow the soft top in the down position, then put the hardtop on the car. No need to have an "either-or". This B here has the "erector set" frame, so it gets completely removed and stowed in the boot (actually, in the garage).

Well folks I have to say thanks for the input. I received my MacGreagor seals and they fit fine. Two chrome sockets from Moss arrived as well. After our return from AZ, I'll tackle the install of the sockets. Seems the best way would be to remove the convertible top completely then fix up the cockpit trim behind the top. I assume that the sockets will fit the top mounting points... Assume. Ha...
