How do you prove that an MGB LE is just that - and not a clone that somebody built? is there a series of VIN numbers that the LE series used?

Solution
My British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate states that our '80 MGB is a Limited Edition. And John Twist will ask just how limited is a production run of 6,700 cars?

Anders Clausager describes the LE in his book "Original MGB With MGC and MGB GT V8". The first VIN was 492071, the last California car was 500344 (Dec '79) and the last 49 state car was 523000 (Aug 80). UK-market cars are mixed in. Always black with black or beige interior. The owners manual has an insert that covers the different wheels. Ours never had the plaque.

Thanks, that is useful info. The colours match your description plus the air dam, the plaque and the luggage rack. The UK models seem to have had a red background in the octagon - US are black backgrounds. Have to see if I can get a cert for mine from the Heritage Trust.
