I have a 66 1098 spridget that I pulled the engine to fix multiple oil leaks. Fixed the leaks added new clutch and put back in car. Did not remove distributor Car was driving and running good prior to this. Now it won't fire. Has gas, spark etc. Has 2 year old battery new coil. Aftermarket starter and ignation Weber down draft carb. Won't even sputter with either. Any ideas?

Ground strap reattached?

You probably have, but I'd go back and recheck all connections. Might be worth doing a static timing to make sure the distributor didn't get moved -- even if you didn't remove it, it might have slipped somehow and be far enough off to keep things from running.

Does the starter turn over?

If so, and it doesn't fire, you can have the distributer cap 180 deg out.

Ground strap is attached. I’ll check the distributor in the morning. Thanks

Worth rechecking the firing order as well If you had the wires off.

Just flip the wires around at the plugs. Exchange 1&3, 2&4. That puts it 180° from where it is now.

Thanks for the ideas below in the threads. Still won't fire. No air in gas line, new coil, plug wires in correct order, ground strap in place, reversed wires for 180 off, (put back to original ) Battery seems fine but doesn't seem to turn very fast, tried to do it with a jump but didn't turn any faster, Spark isn't blue but orange, loosened distributor and tried starting by turning 1/4" at a time no luck. Has a Fireball XR 700 ignation with a Accel super coil. Any more ideas? Won't ignite starting fluid either.
