Does anybody know the correct diameter of the front overrider supports? Also, chromed or painted? Just to be clear I am talking about the bar that goes from the front overrider back through the hole in the grille. Looks like maybe the bar is is 5/8 or 3/4 O.D. Want to make my own.
Thanks, Larry
Are there supposed to be supports there? I have a 4a (at the shop), and it does not have the supports... but upon further research, the 4 grille has the two additional holes...
Wikipedia has two photos that do not show any supports: > Triumph TR4 - Wikipedia < . But why the holes in the grille?
They are supposed to be there but rarely are. TR4 only. There is a threaded hole in the back of the overrider and a slotted hole on the inner fender. Moss P.N. 804-070 & 080. I just don't want to pay $120 for 2 plain steel bars.

Doing a google search of the Triumph part number (why Moss uses their own I will never understand), I found the following discussion in the UK: > Size of tubing for front overider stay <.
Looks like 5/8" OD tubing. And I agree, 60 bucks a side is quite steep! (Although the parts at TRF, and presumably Moss as well, are chrome plated.)
Hi Larry, I have a stash of parts for the eventual restoration of my old college TR4 and have a left-side overrider support, PN 611970. It's 15" long, 5/8 OD from 1/16" tubing. Painted gloss black, 15" long with a very slight bend at ~9" from the slotted end. The car is stored in another state so can't confirm how it goes in. Jeff
Thanks guys, that's exactly what I needed to know. Only question left is chrome or painted? Or was it an option? I was considering making them out of stainless tubing. Then you could paint or polish as you please.
Larry
Made my own. 5/8 thin wall tubing off an old carpet sweeper handle. I know they are in the business to make money but, really? Is this worth $120?
