Oil Filter Removal

Hello

I plan to change on my BJ7 the original oil filter support with a KIT-spin off type.

I'm afraid to break the screws during dismounting.

Have you already dismounted this part and have some advice for me to avoid any problem?

Many thanks.

I'm not sure if you're changing to spin-on or back to original, but both have pretty hefty bolts--the US spin-ons typically use an Allen head bolt--so removing what you have shouldn't be a problem. Just be sure to use the proper tool, and don't force things ('rock' the bolt back-and-forth instead of trying to force it off). Use some penetrant--Kroil, PB Blaster or French equivalent--and/or a little heat if they put up a lot of resistance. These bolts were at least exposed to oil and they aren't usually rusted/frozen in place.

It might be tempting to use an impact wrench if the bolts are really stuck, but I would avoid that except as a last resort. Use hand tools so you have a good 'feel.'
